Making good habits and breaking bad habits is at the core of creating a better life.  You need to establish new habits that serve you and kill those that don’t. Neuroscience has shown that our brains are plastic and flexible, no matter your age yes you have a plastic brain. This this is what scientists call brain plasticity or plasticity, meaning you can change your brain, you can teach your brain to develop  good habits and break bad habits. We can do this and  learn new things even at the age of 90!.

Our bad habits are stored in our brains and neuroscience has shown the are two ways to make good habits and overcome bad habits. First, habits are usually triggered by something such as: an event, a feeling or a person. Second, it is important that you have a plan b as to replace the bad habit with a new habit or plan b.

Awareness, awareness and more awareness…

You must identify what triggers the behavior or habit you need to change, you gotta work on this one! Awareness is the very first step in any change process. 

Does your bad habit appear when you are confronted with certain realities or facts?,

or Does it show up when you are fearful?

Does it show up when you are bored?

When the triggers shows up again in your life, you have to acknowledge it and then consciously choose your new habit or ritual instead of falling again into the bad habit behavior..

Now lets talk about rituals. Rituals help you get connected to your goal and are the only bridge that will take you there where you want to go, to the life you want to create. Without them it is easy to get lost and even start thinking that may be that wish or that extraordinary life is  just not for you. WRONG! if you want something, it means it is in your field, it is achievable for you, it is in your thoughts and can be manifested in reality

Lets say that you want to improve your physical appearance, then please don’t be shy with the target, trust me! don’t just say: «I want to improve». Say: «God yes!! I want my best body ever!!». Something that inspires you, challenging enough and reachable.

How to stop the habits killing your body and create the new rituals?

Write down the 3 bad habits that are stopping you (STOP DOING) form having your dream body and next write the 3 rituals (good habits) that will replace the old ones (START DOING)

Here is my example:
Stop Doing (bad habits) 
  1. Drinking beer at social events
  2. Eating pizzas and carbs at night when I am bored
  3. Complaining and Telling yourself I am fat in front of the mirror

Start Doing (good rituals) 

  1. Drink a low calorie drink such as lemon soda and max one alcoholic drink at social events
  2. Choose low glycemic carbs instead and sometimes veggies
  3. Be grateful for your body and no complains instead commit to improve

COMMITMENT WITH YOURSELF is the key. When the trigger shows up you will not jump into the old bad habit and instead you will apply your brand new rituals. There are terrible habits that can kill your happiness and success like the horrible habit of telling yourself you wont achieve anything, the habit of telling others what to do, the habit of not showing up. All these «little things» will stack up as a wall between you and your dreams.

Remember, you created those habits and you can also create new ones that serve you better
